Well, the first thing you should do is probably cry.
It’s okay to cry. It hurts pretty darn bad.*
*note: The previous sentence is not constructed well, but when using the word “darn”, common grammatical rules do not apply. Duh.
Then you should get cozy on the couch and watch some of your favorite movies…
Sleepless in Seattle will always make you feel better.
You should definitely eat lots of the homemade naan your husband slaved away on for an afternoon…#yum
Pair it with the homemade hummus that he also made, and you have yourself a real treat…
Now you are not going to be able to fix your hair or put on make-up at first, so make sure you have a fabulous friend that can do both…
Betsie, you made me feel normal for the first time since my accident. Thank you for glamming me up for Easter Sunday! You are nothing short of an impressive stylist…
Put on a fun dress for church that one of your besties gave you (thanks, Lane)! It will feel good to get out of sweats for a little bit…trust me.
Thanks for the sling & good company, Monica!Go on your first outing with your husband since being couch-bound…
Side note: Easter service was a refreshing first outing. I was reminded of this verse over and over again throughout the weekend: “Behold, I am making all things new…” Rev. 21:5.
Sit outside with your favorite pup. He’ll be frustrated because you can’t throw his chewed-up frisbee very well, but he’ll get over it. Dogs don’t hold grudges, thankfully…
Go to the library for Story Time with some of your favorite girls. You’ll hear one of your favorite Children’s books (The Very Hungry Caterpillar), and who wouldn’t want to hang out with this cutie?
photo nabbed from Lucas FittsRachel…thank you for cleaning my kitchen, grocery shopping for us, and the delicious smoothie. You also kept my spirits up-thanks for the great convos and for making me laugh. You are the best!
………………………………………………………………………………………………………………..
Go to lunch with your neighbors. They’ll cheer you up and make you laugh.
And when you’re leaving lunch, you might just see an Indy race car giving free rides around the block.
Thanks to this lovely lady for helping me get home after the fall :)You should definitely go for a ride! Don’t even think about it. Just do it.
Woo hoo!!!!
Go to a Spring cookout with your friends…
They’ll cook some tasty burgers for you…
Picture nabbed from Julie’s facebook…but I had to show how cute the host and hostess were. And major thanks to Julie for picking me up and taking me to the doc as soon as the big fall happened!
They will make you smile and will take funny pictures, too…
Thanks, Lucas :)
………………………………………………………………………………………………………………..
Visit one of your besties and her new baby girl…there’s no way this will not cheer you right up!
Emmy, you are a doll!
Hang out with the girls…
And have a morning Skype coffee date with one of your favorite bloggers…
When your left arm is feeling much better, go for a walk in your neighborhood and you might run into a friend with a similar style…
This sweet neighbor also fixed my hair last week one afternoon before she got hurt. Thanks for helping me, Faith! We are officially “sling sisters”. I hope your arm heals quickly!
By the way, who says you can’t have some fun while your arms are broken?
………………………………………………………………………………………………………………..
It’s true. I broke both of my elbows and knocked a bone in my wrist slightly out of place. Sometimes you go outside to get some sunshine and exercise with your pup, and you come back with some painful injuries. Words of wisdom– if you get in a fight with pavement, it will win, so try not to fall. :)
The good news? It’s getting better. It actually does heal a little every day. I was pretty upset at first, because I couldn’t do much of anything at all for several days. And, I was mad because it wrecked some of “my plans”. I was quickly reminded that my plans are not my own: The heart of man plans his way, but the Lord establishes his steps. Proverbs 16:9.
When they told me that it would feel drastically different in just one week, I thought they were crazy. Yet one week later, I started to feel some relief from the pain, and I could even lift and pour with my left arm. I still have several weeks to go before things are completely normal, but I can type and work on my computer, which is a huge plus!
I have had a lot of time to reflect, lately, which has been a blessing. After coming through a season of Lent, the Lord reminded me of his goodness and his grace in a way that was profound. I am thankful for that time of reflection and was reminded throughout Easter weekend just how great His sacrifice was. This was just one of the many blessings that I received while not being physically able to do much.
I am grateful beyond words to everyone that has called, texted, brought us meals, said a prayer, and helped me with groceries. Thank you for driving me around town, bringing me ice cream, loving us well, and helping me do everyday tasks. Thank you for the bag of treats and magazines and for setting up a meal schedule for us (Katheryn). :) Thank you for spending time with me. We are overwhelmed with joy and gratitude by the love you have shown!
Special thanks to my in-laws for helping us out last weekend. You lifted our spirits and organized our life when we were buried in chaos and laundry–thank you, thank you!
And I couldn’t end this post without thanking my loving husband. Thank you for taking care of me and waiting on me hand and foot. I know you don’t consider yourself a great care-taker, but you have been wonderful and selfless. I couldn’t have gotten through this without you.
Here’s to healing and being able to blog again!
xoxo
