The Feel Better Smoothie

I don’t typically post a lot of recipes on the blog, but I’ve been on the go…a lot lately.

When you’re on the go, you need a go-to punch sometimes
so you don’t end up eating junk.

I speak from experience, people.
My go-to college snack was always junk.

I call this “The Feel Better Smoothie” because I always make it
if I feel like I’m starting to come down with something
or if I just feel kind of puny.

But it’s great anytime, really.
I make it a few times a week, and I make sure we always have these ingredients around.
It’s a great mid-afternoon pick-me-up or light lunch if I know I’m going to have a larger dinner.
And it’s chalked full of good things, so let’s smoothie up!


Start with about 1  1/2 cup of frozen fruit

(you can add more to your liking)
and you can do fresh fruit if you have that on hand.
Just add a little bit of ice to make it cold.

Add 1 cup of fresh spinach leaves.


Hello, dark leafy greens!


If you have a banana, throw it in for extra smoothie creaminess.

Go ahead and scoop out 2-3 heaping spoonfuls of your favorite Greek yogurt.
I’m a fan of Fage, but use whatever you like!

Then add 1-2 tbsp of flax seed.

Melissa Schollaert of Real Nutritious Living turned me onto flax seed,
and now I can’t get enough! It’s so good for you, and you can put it in almost anything.


Next, add about 1/2 cup of coconut water.

I add more sometimes. Go on, add as much as you like!


Add 1/2 cup to 1 cup of almond milk.

It should look similar to this by this point:


Now use the “chop” button on your blender to get all of that yumminess working together.


And then the “mix” setting to get it all flowing nicely…

Add in about 1 tbsp (a little more if you need it sweeter)
of your favorite local honey bear…


And voilà !

You’re ready to enjoy your smoothie!

It’s tasty (I promise), and it’s really good for you.
You’ll feel like a million bucks after you down one of these.

In a blender, combine:

1 1/2 cup frozen fruit

1 cup fresh spinach

1 banana (optional for more creaminess)

2-3 heaping spoonfuls Greek yogurt
(you can substitute avocado here, too)

1-2 tbsp flax seed

1/2 cup coconut water

1/2 cup almond milk
more if needed

CHOP until chopped well,
then mix for a few seconds.

Add 1-2 tbsp honey.

I found this recently, and as an avid blender user,
I thought it was brilliant.

    This actually sounds incredibly delicious! I’ve been afraid of greens in my smoothies, but I really want to give it a shot!

      Let me know what you think! I was afraid of green smoothies before, too, but they are hardly noticeable in this one! And it feels so good to know that you’ve gotten your cup of dark greens in! Enjoy! ;)

    Wish I saw this three days ago.

    It’s my own fault. I was bragging about how I made it all winter without getting sick, and I held out until about two days before spring. :(

      Aw man, that’s no good! I’m sorry you feel bad. I feel like I always get sick on the border of Winter and Spring, too. Drink your smoothie and rest up, lady! ;) Feel better!
